Annual Meeting- 2001 August 10 & 11, 2000
Photo Tour
The MFA Annual Meeting
took place at Tustin, Michigan, near Cadillac with the banquet and
meetings at the Kettunen Center. Highlights of the meeting included a tour
of the Pine Tech Sawmill near Lake City which specializes in sawing Red
Pine. A tour of Pete Buehler's woods was followed by a meal cooked
outdoors by Pete himself. At Buehler's Woods, members also enjoyed an
informative program on Edible and Medicinal Plants in Northern Hardwoods
by Chris Bernard. Saturday, the Cadillac Forest Service provided a program
on Black Bear in Michigan which was followed by a walking tour through
Mitchell Swamp (also called Bear Swamp). Members were then taken on a tour
of a timber sale conducted by Pete Buehler showing how a selective cut of
maple and beech yielded the landowner a substantial return and left the
woods in better shape. Bill Botti acted as able auctioneer at the annual
banquet and auction Saturday night. Here are some photos of the meeting
